Technical Project Manager

Location: UK Type: Full Time

So who are we? We are TOKYO a digital agency and are looking for a Technical Project Manager to join our team on a permanent basis. We are based in Liverpool and London but at the moment we’re all working remotely, and it works so well we are not averse to people to choosing to remain remote once lockdown is over. We’re easy going, and whilst you contract may say we’re a 9-5 operation, or to the needs of the business. It’s certainly the latter, given our international client base and times of campaigns, it can be busy 9-5, it may not, but may be busy other times. So, we flex to the requirements of our clients. We don’t ‘clock on and off’ but we are here for our clients and colleagues. We’re a modern tech outfit.

What we do Along with developing digital campaigns we get involved in some heavy tech integrations of systems, usually the website pulling/pushing to a range of client systems. We don’t particularly specialise in any, we’ll figure it out. Its API, its data, its integration and we love a challenge of something we haven’t done before. (Not that we probably haven’t already!)

What do we have already? So, we have project managers (client facing), a Tech Director, we have developers, sysadmins, and one of our biggest and unique agency assets is we have a huge roster of freelancers that you can call upon and internal systems for searching down the right person to build a team for a job.

So, what is is we need? Some more internal technical ‘glue’. We need someone who can work with our Directors, client facing project managers and the rest of the team and support them. So it may be with client meetings in ensuring we capture the full tech requirements of their project and the resource implications for us, you’d work closely with the client project manager on this. Then it’d be about ensuring the right resource is on the project internally. That the project is adequately scoped out and that from a tech perspective it stays on track.

What might you be doing? Keeping an eye on code commits to repositories (i.e. just on the ball as to tech activity), ensuring our guys aren’t getting swamped, deciding if we need extra resource and looking at what we need. Reviewing if we have the right people on the job. Keeping a watchful eye for scope creep from the client. Assisting with the onboarding process, ensuring the right people are kicked to get dev, staging and production environments setup on our systems. That freelancers have appropriate access to tech systems (i.e. granted on a ‘need to have basis’). Holding people to account, all in a friendly way.

Your background In case you hadn’t guessed already, we’re a relaxed company, we strongly believe in process and procedure’s – but only when they are necessary. There’s no particular right or wrong way and we aren’t going to say you have to have been a Software Engineer, a SysAdmin, SysOps person in the past (though maybe very helpful) its more the technical understanding. You need to be able to talk tech on the same level with clients and be on a level with our technical teams. You’ll be organised be able to chip in on proposals particularly in writing a bit of tech spec and predicting internal resource requirements (skillsets and time needed).

It’d be helpful if you’d be able to chip in on setting up new repo’s, our CI/CD system and environments, but that’s not a requirement and certainly if you’d like to jump straight in on that stuff you can. Equally if you’d like to learn, we’ll show you the ropes.

When do we need the role and what’s the salary? The answer is yesterday, and Salary is based on experience and skillsets etc. It’s a full-time role, official base would be Liverpool or London but can remain remote (though be good to catch up with your peers for regular coffees/drinks when lock-down allows). We’ll provide BUPA healthcare, gym membership (when they open again), kit you need, mobile phone and other bits you’d expect from a tech company.

Application process Apply via: OR visit our website at (ignore references to freelancer roster, we’re just using the same form to keep things simple for us, your interest will hit the right people!). Forget the hourly rate field (stick in £100 and as to Fee Preference: no pref).

Look forward to hearing from you!
